POW is putting together a new membership pack for all members who join or renew their membership this year (including those who have already done so earlier this year). We are very excited. It will include a membership discount card and free seeds saved by our members.

(So if you haven’t already become a paid up member of POW, why not do so now. Information about joining is on our Membership page or you can email membership@pow.org.au).

In order to have an ongoing selection of interesting seeds to put into our membership pack, we need your help. Will you volunteer to become a seed saver for us? Here’s how it will work:

You volunteer

We put you on our database as a seedsaver and send you a packet of seed saving envelopes

Next time you are saving seeds for yourself, you put aside some for POW. Place them into the envelops and fill in the relevant information on the envelope.

Put your envelopes in an ordinary envelope and post them back to our PO Box

We will file them and use them as needed

We will also keep track of when you are running low on seed saving envelopes and send you more as needed.

EASY! and fun.

Please email membership@pow.org.au if you are willing to become a seed saver.

We’re in the process of starting up a local seed savers network.

The Seed Savers’ Network aims are:

To preserve the biodiversity of traditional, cultivated, non-hybrid useful plant varieties through community involvement.

To monitor, conserve, maintain and expand the genetic diversity of domesticated plant species and their wild relatives in their habitats.

To promote the ecologically sustainable use and production of quality seeds in biodiverse, indigenous and natural farming and gardening systems.

To raise public awareness of the importance of plant diversity.

POW is running a workshop on seed saving on the 24th April. On the day, you’ll be able to register for the new Seed Savers network for the Western Suburbs. Maybe you want to start your own local Seed Savers network closer to you. Information will be available on the day. Either way, put that date in the diary, and see you there! Or, if you can’t attend but want to be kept in the loop, send an email to seedsavers@pow.org.au
