Permablitz this Saturday 3rd July in Seddon
We’re having a permablitz on Saturday the 3rd July from 10am. We will be building a chicken coup, potting fruit trees, building garden boxes and making a big mandala vegie patch. A scrumptious lunch will be provided as well as morning and afternoon tea.
There will most likely be a dance off and some music so wear old clothes with your dancing shoes and bring and instrument as well as any gardening gear you have around. There will be plenty to learn about garden design, chickens, community bonding and blitzing.
The permablitz gurus will be teaching any one interested how to run their own blitz so it’s a particularly useful for anyone wanting to learn the ropes. Please call 0411 355 910 if you would like to come. Hope to see you there!
FOOTSCRAY CAD PLANNING SCHEME AMENDMENT C90
A letter from Janet Rice, Electorate Officer, Colleen Hartland MLC, Member for Western Metropolitan (attachments not included – please contact Colleen Hartland’s office for copies of these).
Hi,
Thanks for your interest in taking action about the C90 Footscray Planning
Scheme amendment. I held a jam packed meeting last night in my office -
approximately 40 people attended and at least another 15 emailed in their
apologies. Thanks to everyone that was able to make it at such short notice
We are extremely concerned about the amendment – the excessive heights
being proposed in the Footscray CAD, the changes in residential areas
proposed, and the removal of the requirement to notify neighbouring
properties, and the rights to appeal against developments at VCAT- even
when the developments don’t meet the proposed guidelines!
I have attached all the documents that were distributed last night:
an information sheet summarising what we see as the main concerns with
the amendment
the report that Maribyrnong Council considered on Tuesday night when
they resolved to oppose aspects of the Amendment
the map of height limits from the Footscray Strategic Planning Framework
the map of height limits as adopted by Maribyrnong Council in 2006
The important thing now is that you get your submission in by Monday, to
Planning Panels Victoria, Level 1, 8 Nicholson St, East Melbourne.
It doesn’t have to be a thesis – it can just be a paragraph on the issues
that you are most concerned about.
If you aren’t able to get your submission in the post tomorrow then you can
either email it to Colleen at colleen.hartland@parliament.vic.gov.au by
11am Monday and we will print out your submission and deliver it into the
city by the end of the day, or you can drop it off at our office at 75
Victoria St, Seddon (also by 11am).
We can also print off copies of this information for you to distribute to
your street. If you would like us to do this for you, please reply to this
email and you can drop in tomorrow to pick up the materials, and get them
out to people asap, in time for them to do a submission by Monday morning
to email or drop off to Colleen.
Thanks again for your interest,
Janet

Volunteer at the Eco Market @ South Melbourne Commons
Have you been feeling the cold lately? Finding it hard to stay warm now that the grey winter is well and truly upon us? South Melbourne Commons is the place for you.
We have lots of jobs to keep your circulation moving and your karma positive. Our tireless volunteers have been keeping warm, getting fit, having fun and occasionally getting dirty all with a free lunch.
We have knocked off a lot of small but important tasks and are getting lots done in these cold months. Doors are being painted, sanding continues unabated, much “trimming” of plants has occurred and each week we find and clear more trash then you’d believe.
I am sure the question on everyone’s lips is when can I come and help out?
Available dates are listed below. Remember if you are coming, please RSVP so we know how many people to prepare lunch for and we can get a full day of tasks ready for everyone. RSVP to Martin Pritchard ecomarket.melbourne@foe.org.au or phone 0403 440 996.
Volunteer dates for June:
Friday 18th
Sunday 20th
Friday 25th
Saturday 26th
Fridays there are people onsite from 9-5 and weekend volunteer days run from 10am – 3pm. Even if you only have an hour to spare, let us know you’re coming and we’ll make sure that hour is put to great use.
A big thanks as always, to everyone who has come and helped out at South Melbourne Commons, since the beginning and especially in the last week. If you’ve volunteered and we haven’t seen you for a while, drop us a line and let us know what you’re up to or come and see how much progress we’ve made.

Special Invitation to a Sneak–Preview Open Day
For those who couldn’t make it to the big launch on Thursday night for the Werribee Park Community Heritage Orchard (as well as those who could make it), we are holding a special sneak-preview Open Day and Tour at the orchard this Sunday at 2:00 PM. Come and see what all the fuss is about: You won’t be disappointed! Even if it’s raining, bring a brolly: It’s definitely worth it.
Take the freeway out to the Duncans Rd exit and proceed down K-Road, Werribee South, to meet at 2:00 PM at Gate 5 (same entrance as the Shadow Fax Winery), and drive through to the car park next to the Pavilion. From there, we’ll walk down to the orchard.
Kids and their families are very welcome (watch out for the river if you have toddlers).
The security gate will only be manned for about 15 minutes, so be on time or be prepared for a slightly longer walk.
Westlink Campaign public meetings about proposed Westlink tunnel
Westlink Campaign invites you to a meeting about the proposed Westlink tunnel and freeway/ tollway.
The first meeting is in Yarraville, next Monday 24 May at 7pm.
It’s been a great response so far to our campaign for smarter, greener transport instead of the Government’s proposed Westlink tunnel and freeway/ tollway. I’ve been out doorknocking, and have had a great group of volunteers pounding the streets letterboxing our ‘we can choose’ postcards
We have planned the meetings to focus on action. We hope that people will be able to:
- find out about the Government’s Westlink plan
- learn how this tunnel and freeway/ tollway won’t solve our transport problems
- discover how smarter greener transport can work to get the people of the West of Melbourne moving efficiently and effectively
- work together to develop an action plan to win this campaign!
The meetings are:
Kingsville-Yarraville
7pm Monday 24 May, David House, Kingston St, Yarraville
Seddon
7pm Monday 31 May Macedonian Church, 83 Victoria St, Seddon
Footscray
7pm Wednesday 2 June , St Johns Anglican Church, Paisley St, Footscray
