Free screening of visionary documentary ‘HOME’ the movie as part of the Transition Film Festival; connecting likeminded non-profit community groups and environmentally conscious organisations across the State. This event is being organised by local ES groups as a simultaneous satellite event as part of the State of Sustainability program, developed by the Sustainable Living Festival. It’s being organised to assist groups in bringing together their community to spark discussion on the challenges of sustainability.

Location: Yarraville Community Centre (Hall), 59 Francis Street, Yarraville.

All welcome. Come along and enjoy the movie. Have coffee and a chat afterwards. Meet your local ES groups. Please BYO a plate of food to share and your own cup.

Volunteers needed on Saturday 17th December 2011, 11am-2pm at Maidstone Community Centre to help launch the Incredible, Edible, Movable Maribyrnong project. Volunteers are needed to plant and decorate fruit boxes with basil and tomatoes as part of a take home activity. Other fun, free activities on the day for the whole family include soccer and sports clinics, pizza making, face painting, jumping castle, music and entertainment, giveaways and much more.

Maribyrnong City Council successful received a grant of $703,006 as part of the Australian Governments National Partnership Agreement on Preventative Health.

Incredible, Edible, Movable Maribyrnong aims to reduce the prevalence and incidence of chronic disease by building the skills and knowledge of the community and enhancing access and opportunities for eating well and being active.

Party! Party! Yehar!

To celebrate an amazing year for POW and to get everyone excited for what’s going to be a thrilling year of growth for us all, come along to our end of year party! We’re holding it in the Braybrook Community Garden so you can come see all the great things the Braybrook Sprouts Permaplaygroup have been up to. And of course to make use of the pizza oven!

BYO pizza toppings from your garden, and a salad if you’re able to make one. We’ll also have homemade lemonade and tea from the garden. And all you brewing clubs better bring us all some samples so we can see who’s making the top brew!

Kids bring a small (pre-loved) toy, one per child, wrapped for a sharing swap!

Sustainable Gardens Open Day 2011, Newport and Altona

Sunday November 13th, Open 1pm to 4pm

Sustainable, productive, inspirational, achievable! These gardens are wonderful examples of gardening sustainably, producing fresh food in your own back, working with recycled materials, and maximising productivity through organic means. Kate’s garden and Mara’s garden will be open for viewing from 1-4pm on Sunday November 13th. Entry is by gold coin donation and all proceeds will go to Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Join us at the South East Australian Transition Convergence 2011
Sat 29th October, South Melbourne

We invite you to join us for a day-long convergence of Transition groups from all around South Eastern Australia. The day will offer a semi-structured space for us to connect with other Transitioners, share our experiences, explore how the network can better support Transition Initiatives, and celebrate all that we have already achieved.

When: Saturday 29th October 9.30am arrival for a 10am prompt start, going
till 5pm.

Melbourne ).

There will be no EmPOWering Community drinks this Sunday. Instead we are heading down to Forty K Farm for their open day. If you are interested in carpooling, please email Katerina: keasli@gmail.com

The ‘Forty K Farm‘ is a 30 acre property about 40 kms west of Melbourne’s CBD. It has 5 acres planted out with established apple, pear, almond and olive trees. There’s also 40 chooks who provide good eggs each week, and bees. It has great potential for vegetables, livestock and more.

The vision for the farm includes, in time, operating on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model to grow produce that may serve some of the needs of the various organic food coops operating in the west of Melbourne (more). The farm is a opportunity for many groups and individuals to take a step closer to the source of our food and reconnect with the systems that sustain us.
