Permablitzes and Permabees
Permablitz Defined
Permablitz (noun): An informal gathering involving a day on which a group of at least two people come together to achieve the following:
- create or add to edible gardens where someone lives
- share skills related to permaculture and sustainable living
- build community networks
- have fun
Permablitzes are free events, open to the public, with free workshops, shared food, where you get some exercise and have a wonderful time. To be defined as a permablitz each event must also be preceded by a permaculture design by a designer with a Permaculture Design Certificate. The network runs on reciprocity, and in order to qualify for a permablitz you usually need to come to some first, although there can be exceptions in this case.
For more information about Permablitzes, how to get involved, and how to qualify to host your own check out the Permablitz Melbourne website: http://www.permablitz.net/
To find out when new Permablitzes come up, best to join the Permablitz mailing list – go to the website and join up on the home page.
The next Permablitz happening in the POW region is:

PERMABEES
Stay tuned for more news on POWs new Permabees, kinda a mini version of a Permablitz if you will. Much smaller groups of 4-5 people, helping to implement just one project in a day, meet new people and learn some skills! e.g. building a raised vegetable bed out of recycled materials, planting fruit trees, pruning fruit trees – a project that takes more than 1 person to do. If you’re interested, drop us a line at permablitz@pow.org.au and we’ll let you know once we’re up and going. For example…

Hi,
Just discovered your organisation and website! I moved to West Sunshine 2 years ago and have an enormous backyard that I have attempted to begin a vegie garden in. Have been a gardener for ages (off and on!). Have planted 5 fruit trees 2 years ago; and currently am growing tomatoes, lettuces, strawberries, rockmelons and globe zucchinis; plus a few herbs.
I have a large grassy area I really need advise and help to turn into more garden with lots of permaculture input.
There are three of us here with more family and friends to feed.
I’m really keen to participate in permblitzes in other yards and will register this minute to do just that.
Hi from Sunshine West.
Just spotted your wonderful organisation and website when trawling around for permaculture info. WOW!
I have a very large grassy backyard (moved here 2 years ago) that I need to turn into a luscious food forest! 2 years ago I planted 5 fruit trees; and presently have growing; zucchini, rockmelon, strawberries, lettuces, tomatoes and various herbs. But there is heaps of space left!
Always been interested in and tried to garden with permaculture principles, although the more I learn the less I seem to know! How does that happen?
I would really be interested in meeting with and helping like-minded people. There are 3 of us here, a husband more interested in steel than dirt, and a friend who has recently begun living with us and is very keen to garden as well.
Will try to get to next blitz and will spot out the Ardeer Fruit and Vegie Swap this Saturday! We live in Collenso Street so it isn’t far at all!
Hello,
I am not quite ready for hosting a permablitz of my own yet (about to start our house reno/extension) but I would definitely love to design my future garden as a productive space where I can grow lots of fruit and veg. In the meantime, I’m very keen to start helping out at permablitz’s, to get involved in this great organisation and learn about permaculture gardening.
When is the next blitz? Will definitely come if I’m free!

Hi Emma,
Great to hear from you! Best way to get the latest info on the next blitz is to sign up to our newsletter on this here website. You will get a weekly digest email with news and events and that is where we publicise our Permablitzes.
There are none coming up in the west til April at this stage, but we are doing our best to drum up some beforehand. If you’re able to travel though, there is one coming up at Thornbury in a few weeks that I’m just about to put a post on the website about. I recommend also signing up to the Permablitz Melbourne newsletter on their website – http://www.permablitz.net/
Look forward to meeting you at a future event! Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any further questions or suggestions – details below
Best,

Hi Angela
I have a huge backyard in Footscray with the beginnings of a permaculture garden and would like to get involved in the Western Region Permablitzes.
Could you please add me to the mailing list and I will try to get to as many events as I can,
many thanks
Sue

Just moved to town and would love to contribute, with lots of energy to share. I’m a professional gardener from brisbane with my focus being upon native revegetation. I always have an edible garden where I am. I have ben to a number of permablitz up north and so am familiar with the concept. love it!
