Permaculture Out West
We’re a group of people inspired by how Permaculture provides practical solutions. Our members live in the Western suburbs of Melbourne; Seddon, Footscray, Kingsville, Maidstone, Braybrook, Werribee, Moonee Ponds and beyond. We started in May 2009.
Our interests and activities focus around Permaculture and the many offshoots inspired by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren’s ground breaking work, Permaculture One. Go here for David Holmgren’s site, and here for more about Bill Mollison.
If you have any questions regarding permaculture, or about activities the group is involved in, please send an email to admin@pow.org.au.
We have meetings every second month. For more information, go to the POW Meeting page. Please feel free to come to one of our meetings to see what it’s all about.
Permablitz
We carry out Permablitzes (go here to find out more), advocate on behalf of people for more community based gardens, run courses on garden design, irrigation systems, seed saving, preserving produce, and much much more.

I’m writing on behalf of Western English Language School at 46 South Road Braybrook.
We are wondering if there might be someone looking for a spot of land to grow vegies who would be willing to take on our school vegie patch – and most of the produce that comes from it, in exchange for an opportunity for us to witness a food garden in action through the seasons.
The garden is fenced, and about the size of a classroom. It has beds raised with sleepers. It was run by a volunteer who had to give it up for family reasons, and I’ve been trying to keep it up, but can’t manage to do so in my spare time. Currently half is under carpet to stop weeds and the other half under couch grass, which we could get students to help with pulling out – but did so last year only to see them thrive with the wet summer. The site is fenced off from general school area and would only be accessible till 5 on weekdays and 2 on some Saturdays. I’m happy to join POW and pay for working with children check of anyone interested.
If interested, please contact Les on 0425760808 or lwalker@fastmail.com.au
Thanks
I’m writing to see if the land is available for a garden. The work that I would do woud be prep until spring. Thanks Richy
Hi all,
does anyone have a pear tree about to blossom? I am looking for a pollinator for my pear tree for this year’s harvest.
Over the past couple of years it has blossomed but barely produced any fruit, presumably because it has lost a pollinating pair somewhere in the neighbourhood, probably due to development activity in our area. The tree is quite mature and possibly a Corella pear – something similar anyway. Solutions offered were to swap branches with the owner of another pear that blooms at the same time. Apparently it doesn’t matter if not the same type of tree – as long as it is a pear and is blooming at the same time. Next step is to graft another pear onto the tree, but presumably it has to be one that blooms at the same time too, so willing to discuss that possibility too.
So, if you have a lonely pear looking for a mate so it can reproduce, please contact me directly so we can swap branches at just the right time.
thanks and regards,
Wendy Lang
