An Easy Way to Grow Carrots From Madeleine

Since I was young I have always been a keen gardener. Unfortunately the soil where I live is very hard and I have had no success in the past at growing carrots. I needed a way to solve this problem as I spend lots of money throughout the year buying organic carrots. My solution was to get old tyres from my local tyre store (they usually give them away for free or a very small charge) and fill them with soil and compost, and then plant the carrot seeds on top. As the soil has been built up, I now have delicious carrots that are very healthy and big. This year I have tried planting potatoes with great success. The tyres in my garden are a great space and water saver also.

Walk in Werribee Gorge State Park: Saturday 3rd October 2009

Will combine for a
Walk in the Werribee Gorge State Park
Saturday 3rd October 2009

This is an opportunity for members of both groups, having similar interests, to enjoy one of the geological and environmental wonders of the Werribee River Catchment.
The walk from the carpark is moderate as the track follows the river then rises to follow the remains of a defunct aqueduct which supplied drinking water to Bacchus Marsh until it was disabled by a rockslide.
In the gorge there is a wide range of riparian plants, evidence of glacial activity and wonderful wildlife habitat. From this time of the year Peregrine Falcons nest high on the cliffs above the river.

9.00 am To arrange car pooling, meet in the carpark behind the office block at
22 Princes Hwy, Werribee,
directly opposite the Wyndham Civic Centre.
9.10 am Convoy leaves for Bacchus Marsh via Ballan Rd.
9.50 am Drive down the steep track to the carpark in the Werribee Gorge State Park.
10.00 am Begin walk.
12 noon Return to cars.

Notes for Navigators.
Take the Western Hwy for several kilometres towards Ballarat
The turnoff is clearly marked
Werribee Gorge State Park/ Pentland Hills Rd.
Follow the signs a couple of kilometres down into the park.

Everyone welcome
